Why this pregnancy has felt so different, and the support I’ve accessed this time around.

As a 2nd time mum, who struggled with Postnatal depression, anxiety, birth trauma and severe sleep deprivation – I was naturally a little anxious when deciding to try for another baby, and for where the hormonal roller-coaster may take me… When I decided that I would like to try for another baby, I pushed these feelings as far away as I could. After having my son, and being so unwell, I was terrified at the prospect of having another child, and spent years of deflecting comments, and the questions of family and friends asking ‘When are you having another one?’ … Continue reading Why this pregnancy has felt so different, and the support I’ve accessed this time around.

What is Mindfulness, and does it actually work?

Just a few years ago, if you’d have mentioned the word ‘Mindfulness’ to me, I would’ve have conjoured up the mental image of a group of ‘hippies’ or devout spiritualists, sitting cross legged for several hours, chanting ‘om’ on repeat… How wrong I was! Before we talk about how the dictionary defines mindfulness, I want to share with you a scenario that many of you will be familiar with, that defines mindfulness to a T! So hopefully you’ve all been the driver or a passenger in a car before? Imagine that you’re driving to your place of work , you … Continue reading What is Mindfulness, and does it actually work?

Wellbeing and self care online course, Is it right for me?

At a time in our lives where uncertainty looms, and our relationship with technology grows, is it really possible to work on your wellbeing online? Before the pandemic hit, I began rapidly recording videos – researching statistics and conducting heaps of market research in the hope of launching my face to face courses onto an online platform. I knew that I had to step into this space to … Continue reading Wellbeing and self care online course, Is it right for me?

Lock down has certainly unearthed a wide range of emotions. Mine began with disbelief, a strange sense of calm, then came the overwhelm, gratitude, stress, acceptance and later… the ‘mum guilt!’ Many of our circumstances will be completely different right now, with the constant question of ‘what is our new normal?’ For me, I find myself cancelling my in-person workshops, but picking up extra hours at the Mental health charity and juggling this with a hyperactive 3 year old and no childcare. I’m grateful to still be receiving an income. I don’t want to moan because there are so many … Continue reading Why it feels as though the ‘mum guilt’ has gone up a notch, and how we can kick it into touch.

For many of us, our usual coping mechanisms … Continue reading Self-care in challenging times & why we need it.

Ways in which we can help one another with our mental wellbeing.

Quite often, we may walk past someone in the street who looks happy, glamorous, sophisticated and assume that they ‘have it all.’ What we might not see is their invisible struggles that day, battles with anxiety, or their fight with depression. Appearances can be deceptive, especially if like me, they were able to paint their face with makeup and make it look as though life is just peachy. Sometimes we can help each-other without even realising it, often just a simple gesture or facial expression can make all the difference to someones mindset. I have put together some easy to … Continue reading Ways in which we can help one another with our mental wellbeing.
